State would breach its own laws: Stoner

OXLEY MP Andrew Stoner says the State Government will breach its own environment and planning laws if it pushes ahead with plans to develop the land known as Goolawah Estate at Crescent Head.
In a three-part notice of motion moved in State Parliament last Friday, Mr Stoner condemned the Keneally Government and called for the development plans to be scrapped.

The notice of motion called on the State’s Lower House to:

    – Note the land at Goolawah Estate was recommended for environmental consideration by the Department of Lands in 2008, due to its endangered ecological community status.

    – Note that following a $6.1 million native title payout in February Lands Minister Tony Kelly announced the estate would be sub-divided and sold for up to $20 million, despite his Department’s earlier recommendation.

    – Condemn the Government for becoming a developer and breaching its own environment and planning laws in the pursuit of a quick buck.

“There is land elsewhere at Crescent Head for sub-division which is not environmentally sensitive, yet the Keneally Labor Government has held up the development approval,” Mr Stoner said.

“It would seem in the NSW Labor Government’s haste to recover the $6.1 million they paid out for the native title claim, they are breaking every law they put in front of private developers.

“The NSW Nationals and Liberals have committed to incorporating this significant piece of land into the Goolawah National Park, should we be elected in next year’s State election.”
